The family first lived in the Visserstraat and later in the Reigerstraat. His son Theodorus became a minister in 1849 in Zundert, where the grandson Vincent was born in 1853. The minister from Breda travelled there regularly in his carriage in order to preach. Little is known about Vincent’s relationship with his grandfather. Vincent drew him once from a photo. A short fragment from a letter to Theo suggests that Vincent considered him to be a cold and unpleasant man.
