Eindhoven: The Gestel stone printer was located behind the family Gestel’s home on Lange Dijk 8 (now called Vestdijk). Vincent visited the stone printer often to buy printing ink, which he used to darken his paint. He also ordered a lithographic stone for his work The Potato Eaters. Of this lithograph study – which he sent to friends and acquaintances – only 19 copies are still known worldwide. He once saw some paintings by Dimmen Gestel at the printer’s, which he found promising. Vincent advised Dimmen’s parents to send their son to him. This is how Dimmen became Vincent’s student.
